Background:

The Wine & Spirit Trades' Benevolent Society was founded in 1886. Thirteen good citizens met in Vintners' Hall on December 8th, 1886 to approve the formation of the Society.

Purpose:

The purpose of The Benevolent is to make a real difference to the daily lives of those who have worked in the Drinks Industry and need our help. The Benevolent helps members connected with the alcoholic drinks trade. Beneficiaries can be current or retired trade members, or their immediate dependants, and come from all areas, including brewers, wholesalers, off licences, shippers, producers and journalism.

Objectives:

The role of The Benevolent is to ensure that sufficient funds are available, so that assistance can be offered to those in need by any of the following means:

  • by granting regular charitable payments
  • by making grants or gifts to relieve hardship
  • by building, acquiring, otherwise providing and maintaining homes for such persons, their spouses and dependants.
